Sunday, July 5, 2020 – Group Ride

“Another sultry Sunday, another pre-dawn 5 am departure after loading reluctant bicycles on to grumbling car carriers, another couple of valleys to explore — this time we raced from downhill along Padawali road and after 12 km, turned left towards Nathiyathal — a quiet, interior valley guarded by monsoon cloud covered mountains on both sides, with the ground being wet and green from recent rains.

Three km after Nathiyathal, the pakka road turned into a narrow mud trail zigzagging through ridges, rivulets, around farms and over rocks, till we reached the main road again at Mata Sula. We continued north for 7 km, turned left to Ambawa, and entered another valley with fewer hills but full of tributaries of the Sabaramati river — we dodged algae covered rocks and rolled through troughs in knee deep water. An “under the banyan tree” socially distant snack calmed rumbling stomachs. But it had become hot and very sultry, and so led by (Adi) Manav, we stripped and plunged into the river, practised some back and breast strokes, stood on slippery rocks (Jai even pretended to take a swimming class), then got out and pedalled through submerged river tracks to Shivdiya and the laboured the last 11 km to Gogunda on a pakka village road.

Sunday, July 12, 2020 – “Lake Sukher” Group Ride

Cycling is all about exploring new places… Udaipur is a city of lakes… There are so many lakes around us, that we still find a new one to explore every time…

This Sunday’s group ride was to explore this beautiful serpentine lake located between Aravali hills, the Sukher Lake… And no, it’s not situated near Sukher, an area known for marble units..

It’s around 40 km from Udaipur, and we have to reach it via Ubeshwar, Beeyal and Majawad…

10 of us from UCC reached there in a beautiful rainy weather, testing our climbing skills in Ubeshwar and Beeyal… We found this huge natural lake… Few of us had a dip in it, few dived and swam in it…

And then, we decided to return via the hilly trail around the lake instead of the main road… That was the most adventurous part of our journey…For almost an hour we were searching for a way out of thick bushes, ravines, deep water, thorns and slippery slopes… It was like hiking with our cycles… We had to drag them or carry them at various places…

Return was again steep climbs via Beeyal and Ubeshwar…
6 hrs well spent on saddles in wonderful company…#Lake_Sukher
